Recently, an explosive Bloomberg report claimed that the Chinese spies had placed tiny microchips in servers used by companies like Apple and Amazon to control internal networks.
In response to this, both Apple and Amazon have strongly denied these claims that their servers were compromised by Chinese spies.
The report alleged that both the companies discovered these spy chips on their own and notified the US authorities later. However, Apple and Amazon have refuted that any of these claims took place.
Surprisingly their responses were heavily detailed counteracting each of Bloomberg’s claims point-by-point. Usually, in cases of public backlashes or security flaw, companies make a statement in limited words.
According to these tech giants, no such chips were found their servers and the infiltration never happened. Here are the highlights of the responses released by Amazon and Apple:
Amazon
“As we shared with Bloomberg BusinessWeek multiple times over the last couple months, this is untrue. At no time, past or present, have we ever found any issues relating to modified hardware or malicious chips in SuperMicro motherboards in any Elemental or Amazon systems. Nor have we engaged in an investigation with the government.”
Apple
“Apple has never found malicious chips, “hardware manipulations” or vulnerabilities purposely planted in any server. Apple never had any contact with the FBI or any other agency about such an incident. We are not aware of any investigation by the FBI, nor are our contacts in law enforcement.”
