Cloudflare To End Support For 8chan Services After El Paso’s Shooting

In a blog post, CEO of security services provider Cloudflare, Matthew Prince, announced that Cloudflare will pull support for 8chan services at midnight tonight Pacific Time.

The decision comes after federal authorities discovered that the main suspect in El Paso’s shooting posted a 2,300-word manifesto onto 8chan, prior to going on a killing spree. On Saturday, 20 people were killed when a 21-year-old man started firing at an El Paso Walmart in Texas.

Taking up examples of terror attacks in Christchurch and Poway, California, where suspects have been linked to 8chan — Matthew Prince writes, “8chan has repeatedly proven itself to be a cesspool of hate.”

8chan has remained under scrutiny for not moderating the content on their website. Back in 2015, Google blacklisted the website due to sharing of child pornography within the portal.

The rationale is simple: they have proven themselves to be lawless and that lawlessness has caused multiple tragic deaths…8chan has crossed that line

According to the blog post, Cloudflare has already notified 8chan about the termination of services. If 8chan doesn’t find a security service provider soon, the portal will become prone to DDoS attacks which could force-shut the website entirely.

This is not the first time Cloudfare has cut off ties with a website. Back in 2017, Cloudfare kicked out “The Daily Stormer” on account of supporting white supremacy and holocaust denials. However, Matthew notes that the website was quick to come back online after switching to a different service provider.

“Today, the Daily Stormer is still available and still disgusting. They are no longer Cloudflare’s problem, but they remain the Internet’s problem,” he writes.
