Armor Games admits massive data breach

All users of this platform have been affected by this incident

The videogame company Armor Games admitted that
all of its users have been affected by a recent massive data breach; according
to network
security
and ethical hacking specialists from the International
Institute of Cyber Security, the compromised information is already on sale in
some hacking forums on dark
web
.

As recently reported, other platforms such as
MyHeritage, MyFitnessPal and the CoffeeMeetsBagel
dating app were also affected by this massive data breach campaign.

With regard to Armor games, network security
experts have found about 1.8 GB of information available in exchange for a
payment of 0.27 Bitcoin, about $988 USD at the current exchange rate.

The browser-based videogames company sent an
email to its users to notify them of the situation, stating that the incident
occurred in the early 2019, although the notification was published until
January 29.

“Apparently this is part of a massive cyberattack
campaign that has impacted about 15 companies. Armor Games accounts that have
been compromised are equivalent to about 2% of the 617 million of hacked
accounts,” mentions the company’s security notice.

According to the reports of experts in network
security, among the Armor games involved information is:

  • User
    names
  • Email
    address
  • User-associated
    IP addresses
  • Hash
    passwords

Armor Games noted in its security notice that
users’ full names, phone numbers and payment card details were not affected
during the incident, as that information is managed by a third party service.
In the end, the company recommended to its users to reset their passwords, on
the platform of videogames and in any other service for which they used the
same keys of access.

The company states that the competent
authorities have already been notified, and also expressed their willingness to
cooperate with the police in the investigation process.  “We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience
this incident may cause. We will reinforce our security measures to prevent
similar incidents from occurring in the future”, Armor games concluded.
