Chrome on Android will alert, fix your compromised password

The 1-tap security feature will help users protect their compromised accounts in time.

On Tuesday, Google announced Chrome browser on Android’s brand-new feature that automatically changed stolen passwords with just a tap. This means Chrome users can stop worrying about compromised passwords as they can fix them with this automated feature.

Google to use Duplex technology

Google’s Duplex technology enables the password changing feature. It was launched in 2018 and further expanded in 2019. It supports several functions in Google Assistant, such as booking a rental car, food ordering, or purchasing movie tickets. Now it can help users change the password without any difficulty.

Google’s senior product manager for Chrome, Patrick Nepper, stated that the Duplex-powered Google Assistant has now taken over the tiring process of web browsing, including “scrolling, clicking and filling forms, and allows you to focus on what’s important to you.”

“And now we’re expanding these capabilities even further by letting you quickly create a strong password for certain sites and apps when Chrome determines your credentials have been leaked online,” Nepper noted.

How does It work?

Whenever you need to check for stolen passwords on supported applications or websites, Google Assistant will enable a Change Password button. This button will instruct Chrome to search the website and supervise the password changing process automatically.

Hence, the tool can check the safety of saved passwords. When Chrome finds a password that has been compromised in a data breach, the user will be prompted to tap the Change Password button.  The user may choose to go through the process manually and supervise the credentials changing process.

This feature is currently available for Chrome Android users in the US, and those who have synced their passwords with the browser can benefit from it. Currently, it supports a small number of apps and websites but will be available for more sites and in different regions soon.
