KickassTorrents Becomes First Torrent Site to Introduce Two-Factor Authentication

KickassTorrents add Two-Factor Authentication feature, vows to protect users’ account and privacy

The Pirate Bay may be the most popular torrent site but KickassTorrents is putting money on security. That’s why it has become the first ever torrent website to put two-factor authentication for its visitors — The new feature is known as “multi-factor authentication” vowing to protect users’ privacy and data.

The new security feature will provide users with an extra layer of security just like the one provided by Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter and Google.

According to the official announcement, Mr. Gooner, president of KickassTorents said:

“Using a username and password together with a piece of information that only the user knows makes it harder for potential intruders to gain access and steal that person’s personal data or identity.”

In order to activate the two-factor authentication, users need to go to their profile settings, scroll down and find the two-factor authentication tab and click enable. Once activated, users will see a QR code. However, users will need a third-party app to scan the QR code.

Once the new security feature is enabled, the user will be asked to put the code displayed during the scan. Remember, a user has to go through the same process whenever they try to login to the site.

KickassTorrents advise users to use a third-party app that won’t ask them for their mobile phone numbers also DON’T use the app for personal or financial purposes.

The Two-factor authentication feature is optional so in case you think your account is secure without implementing any security, you can login with the normal password.
