Dell resets all customer passwords after security breach

The computer technology giant Dell has announced on Wednesday that it has suffered a potential security breach in which hackers attempted to steal customer data from its website Dell.com.

The incident took place on November 9th when Dell detected and disrupted an attack aimed at the personal data of its customers including names, email addresses, and their hashed passwords.

The company carried out a thorough investigation finding no conclusive evidence that the data was accessed by hackers. However, as a security measure, Dell has reset passwords for all Dell.com customers. Dell maintains that no credit card or sensitive information was targeted in the attack.

“Credit card and other sensitive customer information were not targeted. The incident did not impact any Dell products or services,” Dell said in a press release.

It is unclear how the hackers got access to Dell’s website or what vulnerability was exploited to do so but according to the company it has already implemented security measures to protect its customers from any further attack.

“Upon detection of the attempted extraction, Dell immediately implemented countermeasures and initiated an investigation. Dell also retained a digital forensics firm to conduct an independent investigation and has engaged law enforcement,” Dell said.

If you are a Dell customer and signed up on Dell.com consider yourself affected by the breach and make sure to change your password without further delay. Also, as a security measure, keep an eye on your credit card transactions and inform bank in case of any suspicious activity.
