Google has already declared Kotlin language as the number one choice for Android app development. To further promote app development in Kotlin, Google has contributed another free course on Udacity.
It is an intermediate level course that comprises of six lessons that should take about two months to complete. I’d recommend this course to those who are already comfortable with object-oriented programming and Android fundamentals with Kotlin.
The free course on Kotlin will teach you how to add various advanced features to your app by implementing the best practices for the notification system in Android.
The course also explains how to create and clip custom views, draw directly to a canvas, and add animations to your apps. By the end of the course, you will be able to add maps to your apps and know to style them.
Since app testing is an important part of app development, you will also learn to test your app to catch and fix bugs accordingly.
This isn’t the first time when Google has launched a free Kotlin course on Udacity. Since 2016, Google and Udacity have worked together to add 17 free courses and two full Nanodegree programs related to Android development.
You can see the lead instructors, Aleks Haecky and Sean McQuillan, in the video and this one can be considered a sequel to Udacity Kotlin Bootcamp and Developing Android Apps with Kotlin.
So just in case you are completely new to Kotlin, I’d suggest you go through these two first as they are also free of cost. Apart from being the officially supported language for Android development, Kotlin is seeing a rapid rise in popularity with major companies like Netflix and Pinterest adopting the language.
