You might be knowing that the flagship version of Ubuntu, which now ships with GNOME desktop environment, doesn’t take part in Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Beta 1 milestone releases. So, in a way, it’s the first, polished chance to try out all the new Ubuntu 17.10 features.

Ubuntu 17.10 Beta 2 Features

In the past, I’ve written an article on Ubuntu 17.10 new features. Now that Final Beta has arrived, I’ll be updating this article and adding more features to it. Meanwhile, let’s tell you about the newest changes coming to Ubuntu 17.10 Desktop.

As expected, Ubuntu 17.10 is powered by Linux kernel 4.13. Compared to the previous versions, this new release will bring obvious performance improvements and better hardware support.

In case you follow Linux developments closely, you would be already knowing that Ubuntu 17.10 is now powered by GNOME desktop environment, instead of Unity. As a result of this change, you’ll notice a whole new Linux working environment and applications. The apps provided by GNOME are updated to 3.26.

One of the latest changes to appear on the horizon is dropping of the 32-bit installer ISO images for Ubuntu Desktop. This changes should be surprising as other leading distros like Arch and Manjaro have already taken this step and others are planning to do so.

You also get a redesigned Settings app, driverless printing, LibreOffice 5.4, and Windows control buttons at the right.
