Short Bytes:
An incident of hacking into the school computer systems and changing the subject grades has been spotted in a New York high school. Three students have been accused and arrested for conducting this act.

Three students from a New York high school were recently arrested and accused of hacking into school computer system, where they changed their grades and the schedule for 300 students.

Daniel Soares, 17, of Commack, has been accused of breaking into the Commack High School after school hours and connecting a keylogger to a classroom computer on May 26. He performed the task with the help of his fellow Commack High School students Erick Vaysman and Alex Mosquera, both 17.

Daniel repeated the same activity in June, according to the officials. The keylogger recorded all the keystrokes made on the computer and by retrieving the device few days later, he was able to print every log-in username and password.

“That’s how we believe he got the usernames and passwords to get into the system,” according to Detective Sgt. John Best, of the Suffolk County Police Department Computer Crimes Section.

The police investigation has revealed that at least the grades of two more students has been changed.  “We would consider Daniel to be the ringleader,” Detective Sgt. John Best said.

According to the reports, he changed several of his grades in  physics, economics and history. They also changed the schedule of other students, but the school was able to correct the schedule before it was distributed to the students.
