Short Bytes: After being criticized due to the introduction of Windows 10-like spying features in Windows 7 and 8.1, Microsoft has tried to come clean. The company has said that these Windows 7 and 8 updates are a part of Customer Experience Improvement Program and completely optional.
The updates released to Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems were said to bring lots of changes to the way these operating systems worked. However, Microsoft has said that these updates are a part of the Customer Experience Improvement Program and are completely optional.
These updates are KB3068708, KB3075249, and KB3080149, and they are optional in nature. A user, if decides to participate in the CEIP, agrees to share some information with the big guys at Microsoft.
KB3068708 says: “This update introduces the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices. By applying this service, you can add benefits from the latest version of Windows to systems that have not yet upgraded.”
According to Microsoft’s terms, these updates are a part of CEIP and the OS collects the data to make a user experience a lot better.
Microsoft describes on its website that if a product has an option to participate in CEIP, you can choose to stop or start participating at any time. It says: “The diagnostics tracking service collects diagnostics about functional issues on Windows systems that participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP). CEIP reports do not contain contact information, such as your name, address, or telephone number.”
If you choose to stay away from these updates. In the Windows Update option, check for updates and hide these specific updates. If you’ve already installed these updates, search for them and uninstall them.
