Google Won’t Allow You To Choose Country Domain For Google Search, Here Is How To Do It

Until now, people have used country-specific domains to receive Google search results optimized for that particular region. For instance, it’s Google.co.in for India and Google.co.uk for the United Kingdom.

Now, Google has announced a small change; they’ll now localize search results by default. So, if you’re in the US, you’ll get the country service for the US. And when you move to some other country, Google will automatically change the country service and again back to the US when you return.

Google itself automatically redirects you to the country domain corresponding to your location. But the latest change means that typing the country-specific domain in your browser won’t lead you to the version of Google Search for that country. It’ll still be based on your actual, current location.

But it’s not some hard and fast rule, you can visit search settings to pick the country of your choice. This will also help if Google got your location wrong for some reason.

How to change Google Search country service?

  1. Go to Google Search on your phone or desktop.
  2. Scroll down to find Settings at the bottom of the page. On desktop, you can find it at the top, below search box.

  3. On the Settings page, look for the heading that says Region for Search Results.

  4. Choose the region you like from the drop-down menu and tap Save.

The update has been implemented for Google Search on the desktop and mobile, Google Search iOS app, and Google Maps. For Google Search on your phone, you can spot the location on the bottom in a grey background.
