On Thursday, Parrot Security announced the release of Parrot 4.9, a new version of its security-oriented GNU / Linux distribution for penetration testing and ethical hacking, as well as the recently added Linux 5.5 and hardware support.

Since Parrot OS is a continuous distribution, you can upgrade an existing version of Parrot 4.8 through APT using one of the following commands:
Sudo Parrot-Upgrade
or
Sudo Apt Update && Complete Sudo Apt Update

Parrot Security OS 4.9 introduces a new, more user-friendly installation program and a new look on the login screen to make the system more attractive to new arrivals and more convenient for users already on board.
In addition, Parrot Security OS 4.9 ships with the Linux 5.5 series kernel, which provides more reliable hardware support, fixes many Wi-Fi and Intel GPU errors, and provides support for new hardware that was not previously supported.
In addition, the Parrot menu structure has been improved by removing some redundant launchers and facilitating the overall navigation of the organization. Here are some of the updates:
- Missing correction icon in the quick menu
- Remove duplicate startups from other Debian categories or packages
- Icon fix for specific security tools
- The fixed aero-heddon execution path
- Improved update launchers
Similarly, Anonsurf, an anonymous mode used in Parrot OS, received an important update that fixes some bad behaviors, such as DNS errors and auto-shutdown. It has been updated with support for running bash, dnstool commands, nyx support for the status command, and daemon support.
Another major improvement in Parrot 4.9 is the new Parrot installer based on Calamares, the same installer used by Manjaro and other GNU / Linux distributions.
Calamares is a distribution-independent installer that is easy to use and offers not only an improved user interface but also all the corresponding advanced features expected by a quality installer, such as complex partitioning of full disk encryption, etc.
However, the Parrot Security OS always includes a Debian installer for those who need it or don’t like Calamares.
In addition, Parrot 4.9 removed all penetration testing tools that depended on Python 2 due to the wear and tear of the Python 2 life cycle. They will be replaced with new tools in future versions.
Finally, all software updates and security fixes that are part of the Debian 10 Buster have also been included.
