India’s First Fully Electric SUV Hyundai Kona Launched At INR 25 Lakhs

While the Indian government is pushing hard for a shift towards electric vehicles in the country, Hyundai has today launched India’s first fully electric SUV Kona. Globally, Kona is available in two options — a 39.2 kWh and a 64 kWh battery. In India, the 39.2 kWh variant has been launched.

Hyundai’s Kona is touted to offer a range of 452 kilometers and will be manufactured at the company’s plant situated in Chennai. The fact that it is locally manufactured will help Hyundai to keep prices low.

Hyundai Kona Specifications

Kona comes fitted with a 100 kW electric motor which is powered by a 39.2 kWh battery. The electric SUV will offer a power output of 131 bhp and a massive peak torque of 395 Nm.

There are four different driving modes in the SUV – Eco, Eco+, Comfort, and Sport. Hyundai says that Kona will reach from 0 to 100kmph in 9.7 seconds and the SUV has a top speed of 155kmph.

Hyundai Kona will have a virtual engine sound to alert pedestrians as electric vehicles have no engine sound by default.

  • A wall box charger of 7.2 kW that takes 6 hours to fully charge the car
  • Fast DC charger that charges the car up to 80% in just 57 minutes
  • Portable home charger compatible with any 3-pin socket that offers a range of 50 kilometers after charging for 3 hours.
