Short Bytes: The latest Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa MATE and Cinnamon flavors are now available for download. Following the “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” model, Mint developers have been able to create the polished Linux desktop experience around. Do you agree with me?
Linux Mint is one of the most loved Linux distributions out there. The constant work of the developers has reflected in the rich desktop experience Mint provides. While Mint has continued to offer a good option for less-powerful and older hardware, Ubuntu seems lagging behind.
If you are aware of Mint’s story, you must be knowing that Linux Mint developers follow a different model. They say: “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” So, what’s new? The apps are upgraded and the overall experience has been made more polished than ever.
Linux Mint 17.3 upgrades the Linux kernel to version 3.19 that brings hardware support. Mint’s software tools have been updated to focus more on speed and stability. LibreOffice is upgraded and the MDM display manager now features an improved high-DPI support along with an on-screen keyboard.
Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” contains improvements to both Cinnamon and MATE desktops. Read about all the changes in release notes.
Repeating the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, philosophy, Clement Lefebvre, the leader for the Linux Mint project writes:
You can download Linux Mint 17.3 from the website. If you have Linux Mint 17.2 installed, you can upgrade automatically by visiting the Upgrade Manager.
