Jeff Bezos Claims National Enquirer Is Threatening To Release His Nudes

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, via a long post on Medium, has accused the National Enquirer’s parent company, American Media Inc. (aka AMI), of blackmail and extortion.

The post (going by the name “No thank you, Mr. Pecker”) suggests that AMI is threatening Bezos to leak his personal and nude images if he doesn’t publically make a statement implying AMI doesn’t have politically influenced or motivated coverage.

If you are wondering how the two are linked, then Jeff Bezos and AMI do have a connection as the National Enquirer quite recently published Bezos’ personal and intimate texts, thus revealing his affair with news anchor and reporter Lauren Sanchez.

Upon investigating (led by Gavin de Becker) how the publication got hold of his private messages, the Amazon CEO got to know more about AMI’s involvement in the “Catch and Kill” process, which is being investigated by others as well.

It is suggested that David Pecker, owner of AMI, was part of the controversy with US President Donald Trump where the Catch and Kill method was used to hide controversial information through non-disclosure agreements and, of course, money.

The post further suggests that as the AMI became furious over Jeff’s investigation, the company threatened to release Bezos’ nude images (a total of nine) and more texts, first verbally and then via a mail sent by AMI Chief Content Officer, Dylan Howard (who happens to be a former Amazon employee).

Jeff writes in his blog post, “Well, that got my attention. But not in the way they likely hoped. Any personal embarrassment AMI could cause me takes a back seat because there’s a much more important matter involved here. If in my position I can’t stand up to this kind of extortion, how many people can?”

Jeff’s post puts AMI’s reputation in questioning and how journalism for it is a tool not to spread awareness, but to its own advantages.
