Linux Mint 18.1 Codenamed “Serena”, Releasing In November/December


Short Bytes: The second release in the Linux Mint 18.x series, i.e., Linux Mint 18.1, will be released later this year in November and December. Derived from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS operating system, this Mint release will be supported until 2021.

Over the years, Linux Mint has established itself as a Linux desktop operating system that can act as a perfect replacement of Windows OS. Back in June, Linux Mint 18 ‘Sarah’ operating system arrived. It came loaded with new features and Linux 4.4 LTS kernel.

Now, the upcoming release Linux Mint 18.1, which will be the second release in the Linux Mint 18.x series, has got an official codename “Serena”.

The official announcement by the Linux Mint Project mentions that Linux Mint 18.1 will be made available in November or December, i.e., before the end of this year.

In the official blog post, it was also confirmed that Linux Mint 18.1 Serena will be supported until 2021. If you’re currently running Linux Mint 18 Sarah, you’ll be able to easily perform the upgrade via the Update Managers.

As expected, Linux Mint 18.1 will be derived from Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus LTS.
