Microsoft Splits Cortana From Search In Latest Windows 10 Preview Build

It appears that Microsoft has finally listened to millions Windows 10 users plea who wanted to get rid of Cortana from their life. Although, not exactly from life but at least Windows users won’t have to deal with the disturbing Cortana pop-up anymore.

In the latest Windows 19H1 Insider build 18317, rolled out to the fast ring users, Microsoft has announced that it will be “decoupling” Windows Search and Cortana in the taskbar.

For Windows Insider users, it means that the Search bar will be exclusive of Cortana. Meanwhile, Cortana will get a separate icon that will immediately launch the assistant-services on clicking.

Dona Sarkar, head of Windows Insider program writes, “This will enable each experience to innovate independently to best serve their target audiences and use cases.”

Microsoft has often been criticized for bundling Windows Search and Cortana together, as both have different purposes. Usually, they get in each other’s way while entering a search query. However, that will soon become a part of the history after the release of Windows 19H1, that is scheduled for April 2019.

Microsoft also has some big plans for the Cortana assistant. In one of the previous build, the company added integration between Cortana, Microsoft’s To-Do app, and Outlook’s tasks.

And that’s not it. Many reports have indicated that Microsoft is trying to turn Cortana into a full-fledged assistant where it can stand firm against other digital assistants from Google and Apple.
