Over the last couple of years, Intel has been struggling in its silicon game. All thanks to AMD’s fancy processors and their ability to deliver the 7nm fabrication process, while the former hasn’t made it past 10nm so far.
But perhaps 10th Gen Intel’s Core “Ice Lake” lineup, which is based on a 10nm process, could give the company a considerable edge and market share it is struggling to keep up with.
A new set of Geekbench numbers have leaked, suggesting that a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-1065G7 chip was able to beat AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. The quad-core Intel chip was running on an HP Spectre x360 Convertible with 16GB of RAM onboard.
What makes this interesting is the fact that the Intel Ice Lake chip in question is a mobile processor designed for laptops while the 3900X is a desktop processor. In comparison to the Ryzen 9 3900X, it runs at around half the base clock speed and uses less power.
However, the Intel Core i7-1065G7 was only able to excel in the single-core benchmark, whereas the AMD chips easily took the lead in the multi-core performance with a 3x difference in the Geekbench numbers.
Still, it’s big for Intel that its mobile CPU is able to compete with AMD’s desktop chips. The company has pushed its plans to release 7nm chips and it appears it’s focusing on making their existing 10nm architecture more efficient than ever before.
Speaking of Core i7-1065G7, it was unveiled at the Computex 2019 and it boasts a turbo boost frequency of up to 3.9Ghz. It’s not the first time that we have seen the Intel Core i7-1065G7 in action. Various Geekbench scores have appeared multiple times since May when the chip was running inside a Dell XPS 13 7390 laptop.
