Amazon Launches Free Streaming Service ‘IMDb Freedive’

Amazon-owned IMDb is already a prominent platform for Movies, TV and celebrity content. And now it appears that the movie database giant is also getting down to the movie streaming business.

Amazon has announced, through the Fire TV blog post, the launch of a free streaming service, called Freedive. The IMDb service includes ad-supported TV shows and Movies.

It has a collection of great Hollywood movies like Run Lola Run, The Illusionist, The Last Samurai, True Romance and more. As for free TV-shows, the Freedive encompasses Heroes, The Bachelor and Without a Trace, etc.

The free, ad-supported streaming video channel can be viewed on laptops, smartphones or on a big screen through Amazon Fire TV devices. Presently, Freedive is only available for the U.S. customers. The company is yet to comment for the Freedive launch in other countries.

IMDb Freedive also includes a feature X-RAY, powered by IMDb search that brings information about the cast, music, crew, etc.

If you come to think of it, ad-supported content is gradually on the rise. Recently, we saw Plex media coming up with ad-supported movies as well. Not to mention, Roku, that has been expanding on ad-supported free content for quite some time.
