Apple is reportedly planning to launch its News subscription service at an event on March 25, according to a report from BuzzFeed. The launch event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park campus.
Since the event is most likely to focus on Apple’s service business, so we won’t be seeing any new hardware like the rumored iPad mini, AirPods, or the much-awaited AirPower charger.
The Cupertino giant hasn’t sent any formal invitations for the event yet. However, we could get tidbits on Apple’s upcoming TV service, given the timing and the theme of the event.
Meanwhile, rumor has it that Apple will add a paid unlimited subscription to Apple News hinting that the company will offer premium magazine and news subscriptions in a single package.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple is in a tiff with publisher partners over revenue splits for the news service, as Apple is reportedly demanding a massive 50% cut — leaving the other half to be divided among publishers based on how much their articles were read.
The News subscription service would cost around $10 per month, however, the exact numbers haven’t been finalized, according to the WSJ.
Given that iPhone sales have taken a plunge in recent times, Apple is now focusing more on selling paid services to move forward and explore new sources of revenue for the future.
