The rumors indicating that Apple is getting rid of iTunes have officially come true as Apple has announced separate apps for Podcast, Music, and TV at its ongoing WWDC 2019 keynote. The three dedicated apps will be available from macOS 10.15 (Catalina) onwards.
Apple has finally killed iTunes after 18 years and it seems like a wise decision as the company is treading on a path where it will focus more on services. Therefore, presenting dedicated and lightweight apps for each service instead of a cluttered all-purpose app makes more sense.
As opposed to the convoluted interface of iTunes, Apple Music, Podcast and TV apps feature a visually appealing interface with colorful sidebars.
Apple Music will serve as a go-to app for users who want to stream music, and the app will also offer personalized recommendations. The new Podcasts app will enhance the podcast listening experience and the TV app supports 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos.
When iTunes was launched way back in 2000, it was a huge deal and offered a singular platform to stream music, listen to podcasts and watch movies. Now, the manner in which users consume media has changed and therefore Apple has turned over a new leaf by introducing dedicated apps for music, podcasts, and television.
