Brazilian Telecom Giant “Oi” Websites Hacked

A defacer from Algeria hacked Brazilian telecom Oi websites in support of Palestine — Yes, we are also trying to figure out the connection ?

Hackers will hack, no matter why or when once they find a way in they get in and take over whatever they can. Same happened with “Oi” a Brazilian telecom giant well known to users all over South America.

An Algerian hacker going by the online handle of “Red hell Sofyan” hacked and defaced the official website of Oi telecom along with several of its subdomains. The defacement took place on 20th June but went unreported in which the hacker left a message along with a page of his own showing support for Palestine.

Upon analysing the targeted sites HackRead found out that two other hackers from Algeria were also involved in defacing Oi Telecom websites who go by the handle of Max Dz and Sm0ld3r. All three attackers defaced 15 Oi telecom websites including the main domain oi.com.br.

The targeted sites belong to Oi’s Internet speed test, daily offers, How to videos, installation guide and user login portal etc. However, it is unclear if hackers were able to steal user data or not.

It is also unclear how hackers bypassed all the security but it should be noted that the defacement can cause the Oi a great deal of damage as the company is filing for bankruptcy worth US$ 19bn, the largest in Brazil’s history.
