Celebrity Websites Hacked with Messages Against ISIS and Turkey

A Kurdish hacker going by the online handle of “Rekan Error” hacked and defaced the official website of Fifth Harmony, an American girl group formed on the second season of The X Factor US in July 2012.

The website (fifthharmony.com) was hacked Saturday morning when Fifth Harmony was attending Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California. In their hack, Rekan Error left a deface page displaying Kurdish flag on the top, his Gmail email address along with messages against Turkey and the so-called Islamic State (Daesh) terrorist group.

According to the deface page: “Kurdish hacker was here… Long live to Kurdistan, Peshmerga,’ followed by: ‘F**k ISIS… F**k Turkey.”

Fifth Harmony’s fans on Twitter were quick to notice the incident after which the site was restored within few hours. However, what went unnoticed is that the same hacker also defaced two other websites belonging to music and TV celebrities including Scott Hamilton, an Olympic champion, TV broadcaster and author from Franklin City Tennessee and Chelsea Bain, a music artist from Nashville, Tennessee.

Hamilton and Bain’s websites were also hacked with exactly same deface page like the Fifth Harmony girl group. Links to targeted websites along with their Zone-h mirrors as a proof of hack are available here.

At the time of publishing this article, all targeted sites were restored. However, this is not the first time when Kurdish hackers have defaced websites and left messages against ISIS and Turkey. In the past, Muhammad Emad, another Kurdish hacker defaced Etowah County Sheriff’s Office website and Dell France, Ireland, Netherlands subdomains.
