China Threatens To Fight Back If India Blocks Huawei

Huawei is stuck in a political tug of war between different countries. After facing a brief ban in the US, the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturer company is now facing a potential ban in India.

India will hold trials for installing 5G cellular network to companies in the coming months. But the country is yet to decide whether the Chinese telecom companies should be allowed to participate in it or not.

According to Reuters, China has issued a statement warning India of “reverse sanctions” if the country blocks Huawei and other Chinese firms from conducting business in India. As per the sources close to the matter, India’s ambassador in Beijing, Mr. Vikram Misri was summoned to the Chinese foreign ministry in July.

In the meeting, Chinese officials said that the Indian firms operating in China could face the repercussions in case India decides to block Huawei after facing pressure from Washington.

Not many Indian firms depend on China as compared to firms from other countries. However, there are some companies like Reliance Industries, TCS, Infosys, and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories that depend on China as the country is a vast market for them.

A committee headed by Dr. K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Indian government will decide whether Huawei should be allowed to participate in 5G trials or not. It will include officials from the department of information technology, telecom, and intelligence service.

Huawei’s fate in India remains to be decided, and China’s warning could have a serious impact on the impending decision by the Indian government.
