Programming is a crucial skill necessary for kids who are stepping into an increasingly software-driven world. However, the training resources required to learn coding aren’t readily available to everyone.
To bridge this gap, Google has launched ‘Code With Google‘ — an educational resource that will help school teachers to teach the basics of programming to students.
“Code with Google is the next step in our ongoing commitment to closing equity gaps in computer science education. With the right tools and resources, more teachers can help their students unlock their potential with code,” writes VP of Education and University Relations at Google.
All the lesson plans in the courses are free and available in English and Spanish. The program is bundled with Google’s existing free courses and tools to learn to code such as the Grasshopper app, which teaches beginners how to use JavaScript.
There’s another activity called “An Unusual Discovery” where students have to put dialogues and actions in a story through the programming language Scratch.
Moreover, there are video-based activities through Google’s free CS curriculum where tutors can teach the concepts of programming through different themes like game design, storytelling, sports, and art.
Code with Google has activities designed for beginners to help them develop an aptitude for computer programming and exercise their skills in logic and problem-solving.
In addition to the debut of Code with Google, the company has also announced a $1 million grant to the Computer Science Teachers Association.
