Codeacademy Adds A New Free Course On Google’s Go Language

Go or (Golang) is an open-source programming language developed at Google to be used as an alternative to C++ and Java by app developers for Google’s network servers and distributed systems.

It has been designed to build fast, reliable, and efficient software at scale. The popularity of Go programming language has also grown in recent years. Now Codeacademy has teamed up with Google to add a new free course on Go for learners.

The tutorial is beginner-friendly and its first four modules are already live. The currently available modules offer 9 hours worth of content and it covers the introduction, variables, conditionals, and functions.

The lessons are broken down into smaller steps and accompanied by quizzes to make sure that you understand the basics thoroughly.

The course also teaches you how to build projects such as:

  • Gopher It: Printing ASCII art using Go
  • Bank Heist: Simulate a bank heist using conditionals
  • Comic Mischief: Store data about a comic shop using variables
  • Interstellar Travel: Learn the use of functions by simulating a space-traveling agency

Even though the course has been designed keeping beginners in mind, Go isn’t a language for the first time programmers to begin with. I’d rather recommend it to those who are familiar with some other languages like JavaScript or C++.
