Enviro+ Is A Raspberry Pi Accessory To Monitor Air Quality

There are many Raspberry Pi accessories available in the market but there are very few boards that are as cool and useful as Enviro+.

Developed by Pimoroni in collaboration with the researchers from the University of Sheffield, it is a board with a couple of environmental sensors and a small LCD display for monitoring data.

Using Enviro+, you can measure indoor air quality, humidity, pressure, light and noise levels around you. You can also connect a particulate matter sensor to measure outdoor air quality as well. It is an affordable alternative to environmental monitoring equipment which is rather costly.

Some of the features and sensors in Enviro+ are:

  • LTR-559 light and proximity sensor
  • BME280 temperature, pressure, humidity sensor
  • ADS1015 analog to digital converter (ADC)
  • MICS6814 analog gas sensor
  • pHAT-format board
  • MEMS microphone

It also accompanies a color LCD screen measuring 0.96″ and having the resolution of 160 x 80. Enviro+ is compatible with Raspberry Pi models having a 40-pin header.

Additionally, you can get an extra ADC channel for connecting an additional analog sensor. You can also combine with your IoT devices like Amazon Alexa or a Philips Hue light which turns on when the air quality drops around you.

The company behind Enviro+ has compiled a Python library to help you control different parts of the accessory.

You can go through this Enviro+ tutorial to understand and use different components of the Raspberry Pi accessory.

Enviro+ starts at just $47.25 and you can purchase the board from here.
