Excessive Smartphone Usage Could Grow You A Pair Of Horns: Study

Over the years, we have all heard about both the pros and cons of technology and how it affects us. While it may sound like some science lectures we have attended way back in school, a recent study shows that usage of mobile phones could lead to some serious physical issues, like growing a pair of horns!

As per a study conducted by researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, horn-like spurs have been found at the back of the human skull, and the reason for the protruding growth could be our exceeding use of smartphones and even tablets.

The study (conducted through 1,200 X-Rays) further suggests that spur growth has been found prevalent in young humans, aged 18 to 30 years. The frequency of spur growth decreases with age, which means people more than 30 years of age have lesser chances of a projection coming out of their skull.

One possible explanation for this growth is that as we humans tend to bend our heads forward to use our smartphones, this leads to the weight of our skull shifting from the spine to the muscles in the head’s back, which causes bone growth in ligaments and tendons.

However, the study is a hypothesis, which suggests that smartphone usage being the reason for protruding spurs is still not proven.

Having said that, we still need to limit our smartphone usage as it has many adverse effects on us. For this, even tech companies are trying to limit our smartphone usage with features such as Digital Wellbeing, Apple’s Screen Time, and more.
