Facebook has gained a lot of negative spotlights for all the data breach scandals it has got its head into. Adding more to the scrutiny, the social networking site is now under criminal investigation by federal prosecutors, as per a report by The New York Times.
It is suggested that a New York jury has summoned records from two of the major smartphone makers, according to two unnamed sources. These two companies stand in the list of around 150 tech companies which have been involved with Facebook to access millions of users’ data. Following this, Facebook ended most of the collaborations over the past two years.
Prosecutors with the United States attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York are monitoring the New York jury. However, there is no word on what all issues the jury is covering and when exactly it commenced.
“We are cooperating with investigators and take those probes seriously,” a Facebook spokesman told NYT. “We’ve provided public testimony, answered questions and pledged that we will continue to do so.”
To recall, Facebook was previously being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Following a lot of security-related issues, Facebook has claimed that it will work hard to solve the problems. However, nothing seems to have taken shape at the moment.
In addition to this, a recent survey discovered that the exchange of data between some Android apps and Facebook is still taking place.
