Mark Zuckerberg-owned Facebook will now provide users’ data to the police department in New Delhi, India, as a helping hand in sensitive cases.
According to a report by Indian Express, a meeting between Facebook’s special team from the US and India, and heads of Cyber wing concluded that Facebook will provide users’ private chats and other important information for cases such as crime against women and children, and more.
The meeting involved various concerns from the Delhi police and paying heed to the same, Facebook agreed to share private chat details with the cyber wing.
It is worth noting that Facebook presently doesn’t share private chats with investigators.
“The meeting started at 11 a.m. Friday in the conference hall of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), and ended at 3.30 p.m. after several rounds of discussion during which officers shared their problems with Facebook officials and also requested that they provide additional details while working cases,” a senior officer said.
Police personnel raised issues regarding delayed responses from the social media site on the request to access data and expect a shorter wait time in the future.
Furthermore, the police asked for other details such as the IP register, IP logs, mobile numbers, and email addresses from Facebook, when required.
