Flipkart’s ‘Free’ Video Streaming Service Is Here To Rival Amazon Prime

Video streaming is something many of us can’t live without. Walmart-owned Flipkart decided to follow the trend and (after various speculations) launched its video streaming service in India. The main attraction of the newest video streaming service is that it is free of cost.

Flipkart video streaming service has no name

While Flipkart has hopped onto the video-streaming bandwagon, it still hasn’t named its service. The service can be accessed by tapping the ‘Video’ option within the Flipkart app from the hamburger menu.

Flipkart’s video streaming service has partnered with various other video streaming services such as Voot, TVF, Dice Media, Arre, and more to display online content such as movies, TV shows, and web series.

One thing worth noting is that the video streaming service has started rolling to Android users as of now, as part of the app’s version 6.17. I could not get hold of the new video streaming service at the time of writing. Hence, I assume it will eventually reach out to all Android users.

However, the service presently offers limited content for viewers, which can cause it some trouble while competing against the likes of Amazon Prime and Netflix.

An Edge Over Amazon Prime and Netflix?

The video streaming service by Flipkart has its direct contenders in the form of Amazon Prime and Netflix. While the free-of-cost nature of the video streaming service could provide it with an edge over its competitors, limited content might be a drawback.

Unlike others right now, Flipkart’s video streaming service isn’t even showing ads to viewers, but it could be there in the future if the service remains free to use.

Furthermore, it remains to be seen if the service will remain free forever, or will it come with a price after it gains traction in India.
