NVIDIA has announced the release of the new GeForce GTX 1660 graphics card. This is the company’s cheapest Turing-based card yet and it’s available at $219. GTX 1660 follows the release of a supercharged GTX that promises performance comparable to a GTX 1070.
For those who don’t know, Turing is the codename given to NVIDIA’s new GPU microarchitecture that follows the Volta architecture. The major highlights of Turing are dedicated artificial intelligence and ray-tracing processors.
Talking about the specs of 1660, it ships with 6GB of DDR5 VRAM and 1408 CUDA Cores. Thanks to a boost clock speed of 1.8 GHz, this card is about 35% faster than GTX 1060 3GB at 1080p. Compared to the older GTX 960, it’s 130% faster.
GTX 1660’s other highlights include support for Adaptive Shading technology, G-SYNC Compatible monitors, and improvements for single PC-broadcasting.
Many gaming and computer hardware experts are calling it the most important NVIDIA launch of the year as it’s a mainstream card that could account for the biggest volume of shipments. This card also counters the criticism that NVIDIA’s RTX cards are too costly and don’t deliver much value.
