Alphabet-owned Google is surrounded by various accusations made by the Indian Antitrust Commission as it is suggested that the company is abusing its Android OS to hamper its rival services.
According to a report by Reuters, Google is being investigated by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for the past six months as suggested by four of the closest sources.
Last year, Google faced a similar case last year wherein the European Commission accused the company of forcefully pre-installing its apps into smartphones of various companies, for which Google was fined Euros 4.3 billion (around $5 billion).
“It is on the lines of the EU case, but at a preliminary stage,” said one of the sources.
It is further suggested that Google officials had meetings with the Indian Antitrust watchdog at least once to discuss the matter after it was reported by a couple of people.
However, Google did not comment on the accusations.
Additionally, if the case appears to have some weight to it, the commission will conduct further investigations into the same.
To recall, back in 2018, the Indian watchdog fined Google of $19 million for search bias made the company.
