Intel Announces 8th Gen Whiskey Lake vPro CPUs

Intel has unveiled its latest eighth-generation vPro U-series processors. The new Whiskey Lake processors, namely Intel Core i5-8365U and Core i7-8665U, come with Intel vPro technology which runs at higher frequencies as compared to non-vPro counterparts.

The chips have been designed for business laptops and portable workstations with a focus on built-in hardware security, manageability, and scalability.

Intel claims that the new Whiskey Lake CPUs are 65% faster than the ones launched three years ago in the Skylake family.

The chips are touted to offer better all-around performance as well as a bunch of security features that aren’t present in Intel’s consumer chips launched previously.

Moreover, these processors support Wi-Fi 6 which delivers 40% faster Wi-Fi speeds, improved WPA3 security, and more reliable managed networks.

The latest Whiskey Lake chips come with Intel’s new Hardware Shield technology, which protects BIOS and locks it down if the system is under attack.

It offers extended protection to help defend against firmware attacks and allows you to “enforce a more complete security policy.”

In fact, Intel says that “no additional IT infrastructure is required.”

Both Core i7-8665U and Core i5-8365U are 14nm processors with 4-core/8-thread chip and support for up to 32GB of DDR4-2400 RAM. Here are the other specs:

  • Core i5-8365U: 1.6GHz base clock speed, 4.1GHz max clock speed, 6MB cache
  • Core i5-8265U: 1.6 GHz base clock speed, 3.9 GHz max clock speed
  • Core i7-8665U: 1.9GHz base clock speed, 4.8GHz max clock speed, 8MB cache.
  • Core i7-8565U: 1.6 GHz base clock speed, 3.9 GHz 4.8GHz max clock speed
