Intel has finally launched Ice Lake processors that are based on the new 10nm fabrication process. The company says 35 laptops and 2-in-1 devices fitted with Ice Lake CPUs are lined up for the festive season this year.
The silicon giant has unveiled a total of 11 processors under the 10th Gen Intel Core lineup. The naming scheme goes like Intel Core i7-1060G7, Intel Core i5- 1035G1, Intel Core i3- 1000G4, etc.
Intel first unveiled the 10nm Ice Lake processors at CES 2019. According to the chipmaker, the new CPUs will accelerate AI usage in laptops. Intel claims it has doubled the graphics performance with its Iris Plus graphics, which are based on the Gen11 GPU architecture. This will enable reality gaming in 1080p, 4k video editing, high-resolution photo processing on the go and a lot more.
The new chips are based on Sunny Cove microarchitecture, which boosts overall performance gains, reduces latency and allows more processes to be simultaneously executed.
Other than that, Intel also unveiled Project Athena back at the CES — a design initiative from Intel to put in faster processing, increased battery life, 5G support and everything backed by artificial intelligence.
Since Intel promised Project Athena laptops by the end of 2019, the promised 35 laptops from Intel might include Athena integration, meaning over 9 hours of battery life.
According to Intel, the new processors will also offer better connectivity with Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) and up to four Thunderbolt 3 ports. This will allow PC manufacturers to innovate on the form factor for sleeker designs.
