WhatsApp has been looking for ways to battle out fake news in India, and one such step is its collaboration with NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies). Now, both WhatsApp and NASSCOM will host their first training workshop in India on March 27.
The workshop will include around 100,000 people both from urban and rural areas in India and will get meticulous training to identify fake and hoax news and stop it from being spread.
Once the people are trained in a series of training sessions, he or she can further pass on their knowledge to other users, thus creating a chain.
The workshop’s aim is to decrease and further stop the spread of fake and derogatory news, especially propaganda, during the upcoming 2019 general elections in the country.
In addition to the various workshops, WhatsApp and NASSCOM also plan to look for different models to spread awareness on the serious issue of fake news. The models are likely to include roadshows and demos, both in rural and urban cities in India.
To refresh your mind, WhatsApp has taken a pledge against fake news for a long time; previously it suggested that it bans around two million WhatsApp accounts per month, has run ad campaigns for the same and introduced a couple of features to take forward its agenda.
