You might be living in 2019, using a modern computer with state of the art software. But there are times when technology does not want you to forget the oldies. One such instance is when you’re visiting a website and it only works with Internet Explorer due to compatibility issues.
So all you can do is click on the option or link and jump on to Internet Explorer to browse the site. But that’s going to change soon, as Microsoft is preparing an IE mode of Edge Chromium.
We heard about this feature back in May when Microsoft announced it at the Build conference. But as spotted by Neowin, the IE mode is now available as an experimental feature on the latest Edge Dev and Canary builds. What it does is whenever a website wants to access Internet Explorer, the browser will open as a tab on the Edge Chromium itself.
How to enable IE Mode in Edge Chromium?
If you want to try your hands on the new feature, you can do so by going to the Flags page in Microsoft Edge Chromium. But as already said, you need to have the Dev channel or Canary build running on your computer.
I still find it weird to do it on Edge, but yes, it’s a Chromium browser now.
- Go to Edge://flags.
- Find the flag Enable IE integration.
- Select IE Mode option for the flag and click on the Relaunch button.
- Next, go to the website that is facing problems.
- Click on the three-dot menu > More Tools
- Here, you’ll find the option that says “Show this page using Internet Explorer.”
So, this is how you can use Internet Explorer inside Microsoft Edge Chromium. However, the feature isn’t yet working for all the users. It didn’t work in our case and just like it already happens, a separate IE window opened. Also, the IE mode is not available on Edge for Mac because the macOS doesn’t support Internet Explorer.
