Mozilla Firefox Lite Android App Officially Unveiled In India

After getting a soft launch last year, Mozilla has officially launched the Firefox Lite Android version at an event in India.

Additionally, Mozilla has collaborated with various companies such as Times Internet, DB Digital and MoMagic to enhance its presence in India.

The Firefox Lite, with a size of just 4MB (which is 10% less than the other competitors), is touted to be a fast and lightweight Android browser.

Coming with private browsing and tracking protection to main users’ privacy, the app has a unique Turbo Mode that can block third-party trackers. This allows for lesser data consumption and faster loading speeds.

Mozilla Firefox Lite is available via the Google Play Store.

Joe Cheng, Head of Product, Mozilla Asia suggested that India is the second largest online market globally and is expected to see a growth of 666.4 million by 2023.

As Indians are more inclined towards affordable entry-level smartphones than PCs or desktops, Mozilla sees it as an opportunity to grow more in the country.

Furthermore, India is home to cheaper mobile data plans, which also contributes to the deemed growth.

For those who don’t know, Firefox Lite is now available in 15 markets in Asia including Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Lite-er versions of apps have been quite prevalent in developing countries such as India, where such apps prove apt for low-end smartphones catering to tier 2 and tier 3 segments, which could also prove beneficial for Mozilla.
