Plex Media Player Plans To Offer Free Ad-Supported Movies

Media client Plex is planning to introduce free ad-supported movies on its platform, reports TechCrunch. Presently, the company is in talks with content owners to launch a full-fledged digital content provider service, similar to what we see in Amazon Prime and the Roku Channel.

Apart from the latest free movies, the platform is planning to offer programming and subscriptions of different premium content providers, right from the software itself.

While talking about the future plans at the ongoing CES 2019, Plex CFO Scott Olechowski, told TechCrunch, “I think, from a commerce perspective, we’ll have ad-supported, we’ll have free obviously, and we’ll have subscriptions. And I think we would like this year to launch transaction as well, just as an option for certain types of content.”

Back in October last year, Plex launched a new service termed — Plex Web Shows to bring different free web-series to the platform. Shortly after, the company announced their partnership with TIDAL music service. In which, users can get discounted access to 60 million tracks via the Plex Pass.

For those who don’t know, Plex is one of the best media streaming websites which offer most of its content, either for free or at an unbelievably low price. In recent years, Plex has swiftly gained a huge amount of users, which is why it is now considered as the biggest upcoming competitors of prominent streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, and Roku.
