Earlier this year, when the Redmi sub-brand branched out of Xiaomi, it decided to change its strategy of launching exclusively budget smartphones. The company now seeks to challenge flagship phones by launching a flagship killer of its own — the Redmi K20 Pro.
Until recently, OnePlus used to take pride in being the flagship killer, but with OnePlus 7 Pro, the company has joined the premium club by putting a starting price of $669 on its new smartphone.
Redmi is now trying to take over the void created by OnePlus’ rising prices by launching the K20 and K20 Pro at an event in China. The K20 Pro is by far the most powerful Redmi phone launched till date and it retains most of the specs of OnePlus 7 Pro.
Redmi K20 Pro Specs
The phone sports a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. There’s a beautiful notch-less screen because of the front pop-up camera. The bezels of the K20 Pro are also thinner than the other Redmi phones.
The slider camera has a 20MP sensor and it pops up in 0.8 seconds which is pretty fast. You can also customize the sliding action with 6 different activation sounds.
Just like the OnePlus 7 Pro, this phone also has a drop protection mechanism which can detect a fall and retract the camera module before it hits a surface.
The Redmi K20 Pro is the most affordable phone yet to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and Adreno 604 GPU — the same combo as OnePlus 7 Pro.
At the rear, you get to see a 3D glass-back gradient pattern and a triple camera setup. There’s a 48MP primary sensor that features the same Sony’s IMX 586 module as the OnePlus 7 Pro.
The other two sensors are the 8MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a 13MP wide-angle shooter with a 124-degree field of view.
As far as the battery is concerned, the Redmi K20 Pro has a 4000mAh battery with 27W fast charging. Xiaomi says that it takes around 70 minutes to fully charge a discharged phone.
For a better gaming experience, the K20 Pro features Game Turbo 2.0 and eight layer liquid cooling. Among other features, you get MIUI 10, NFC, a 3.5mm jack, Wi-Fi ac, USB-C charging, and Bluetooth 5.0.

- 6GB/128GB – 2,599 CNY ($375)

Redmi K20 Pro Sale
The Redmi K20 Pro will go on sale from 1 June onwards in China, and the phone will be available in red, blue, and a carbon fiber color option.
