Samsung Exynos 9825 Is World’s First 7nm EUV-Based Processor

Hours before its Samsung Unpacked event where we’ll get see the new Note 10 Series, the South Korean giant has added a new member to its chipset family.

Samsung has announced Exynos 9825 as the successor to Exynos 9820, and it’s speculated that the upcoming Note 10 series will most probably come fitted with it.

One of the reasons why Exynos 9825 is important is the fact that it is the first mobile processor built using 7nm EUV processing technology. EUV (or Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) technique allows OEMs to leverage ultraviolet wavelengths to print finer circuits for efficient performance.

Samsung Exynos 9825 brings modest upgrades over its predecessor. The new chipset packs two custom Mongoose cores, two Cortex-A75 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores.

Exynos 9825 comes with the Mali-G76 MP12 GPU and integrates a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to bring improvements in AI-powered photography, AI processing, usage pattern recognition, and faster app-loading.

The GPU is the same as the one found in Samsung S10 but the company says that it has overclocked it to bring performance improvement.

Other features of Exynos 9825 are Shannon 5000 LTE modem with Cat.20 8CA 2Gbps downlink and Cat.13 3CA 316Mbps uplink, support for up to 8K Ultra-HD video and LPDDR4X RAM.

With Exynos 9825, Samsung will try to compete with the recently launched 855 Plus. We’ll have to wait for benchmarks to appear to see the real performance of the chipset.
