With an aim to further cut down on the proportion of bezels on a smartphone, Samsung could soon introduce a somewhat new display concept for us.
According to a new report, the South Korean major is likely to launch its smartphones with in-display front cameras, dismissing the presence of bezels or a camera module on display.
The inclusion of in-display selfie cameras (which will go invisible) would call for a full edge-to-edge display, without compromising on the camera performance.
Yang Byung-Duk, Vice President of Samsung’s Mobile Communications R&D Group Display, in a briefing has suggested that for companies to achieve a full-screen smartphone, it will require at least 1-2 years.
The report further claims that the Infinity-O display is a milestone for Samsung in its display segment and the company now plans to take additional steps on the bezel-less display bandwagon.
Samsung’s main aim is to put the necessary sensors under the display; it just did with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S10 and the S10+, and now plans the same for the cameras as well as the speakers (much like the Crystal Sound OLED display).
To recall, Samsung, with the launch of the Galaxy A8s introduced its Infinity-O display, which comes with a punch-hole front camera. The screen eventually made its way to the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S10 series.
However, there is no word on when exactly Samsung makes the technology it is banking high on, official.
