Tesla is bringing back free unlimited charging for its Model X and Model S electric cars. The company stopped offering free unlimited charging a while back because it wasn’t a feasible option at that time.
However, Tesla has taken a U-turn on its decision to increase sales of the Model X and Model S electric cars.

Tesla Offering Free Unlimited Charging To Boost Sales
In the recent Q2 Tesla earnings report, the company suffered a loss of around $403 million. This loss was despite the record sales of its most popular car, the Tesla Model 3. The long-range version of Tesla Model 3 sold around 60,000 units. The Model 3 electric car outperformed all the other cars in its segment, electric or otherwise.

However, the same isn’t the case with the more expensive Tesla Model X and Model S. The Model X has a base price of around $75,000 while the Tesla Model S starts at a price point of $79,990. Both these cars are double the price of Tesla Model 3, which has a starting price of $35,000.
Thus to boost the sales of the Tesla Model X and Model S, Elon Musk & Co. are planning to offer free unlimited charging for these cars. Tesla desperately needs to increase its sales and reach the target of selling 400,000 cars by the end of this year. Musk is confident that Tesla will be able to complete this target by Q3 and become profitable by Q4.
Tesla Free Unlimited Charging With Tesla Supercharger
The free unlimited charging offer is a sweet deal, especially in 2019 due to the increased number of Tesla Superchargers. Recently Tesla unveiled the V3 Supercharger in Las Vegas, Nevada which can offer charging rates of up to 250kWh.
The Tesla Superchargers are ultra-fast electric car charging stations that offer an electricity transfer rate of up to 1,000 miles/hour. The Tesla Model 3, for instance, can be charged to go up to 75 miles in just five minutes, while using Tesla Supercharger.
The Tesla Model X and Model S have a bigger battery and more range than the Tesla Model 3. Thus, Model X and S owners will have their big battery recharged using Superchargers in no time and free of cost.

The Model S is a performance electric car with a premium price. There is no doubt that the Tesla Model S is a true performer in every sense, be it battery range or outright raw power. However, its high price point becomes an issue when the Tesla Model 3 is offering a similar experience at a really low relative cost.
Moto Trend recently crowned the Tesla Model S as the best car to buy, even if you don’t like electric. Thus bringing back free charging is a great initiative to improve sales.
Furthermore, Musk has already confirmed that the price of the Full Self-driving package will keep on increasing until it’s finally approved by the regulators. In that case, the Tesla Model S or Model X becomes more than just an electric car. In the end, it improves the resale value of Tesla cars making them good future investments.
