A former Facebook executive, Alex Stamos, at the Washington Post’s technology and policy conference, has suggested that Mark Zuckerberg can foresee the advantage of a decision perceived as insane.
It is suggested that while at present his decisions could prove insane and unrequired for, they prove to be beneficial in the future.
“Mark Zuckerberg is sitting on more data about what people want to do online than anyone else in the world,” said Alex Stamos.
His statement was supported with an example of the acquisitions of WhatsApp (in 2014 for $19 billion) and Instagram (in 2012 for $1 billion).
Stamos suggested that during the acquisitions, people had placed their bets on them. However, the decision has now proved fruitful for Facebook as both WhatsApp and Instagram are widely popular with 1.5 billion and 1 billion active users per month, respectively.
In addition to this, Alex spoke about how tech companies should work together in a harmonious manner instead of taking a dig at each other.
He further suggested that tech companies should stop each others’ criticism and focus on serious topics such as cybersecurity, content moderation, and political advert regulations.
To recall, Alex Stamos left Facebook in 2018 after the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica data breach fiasco.
