Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8cx 5G: World’s First 5G Platform For PCs

At its MWC 2019 press event, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8cx 5G, the world’s first 5G platform for Windows PCs. The chipmaker company first unveiled SD 8cx for Always Connected PCs in December 2018. It is the world’s first processor for PCs that is built on 7-nm architecture.

Today, the company has announced its 5G variant to bring multi-gigabit connectivity to PCs. The 5G platform features Snapdragon X55 5G modem that will also be used in 5G smartphones launching this year.

The platform promises smartphone-like capabilities along with extreme performance and battery life for the next generation of connected applications and devices.

The official blog post reads, “Featuring the groundbreaking second-generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 5G modem, the Snapdragon 8cx 5G platform will help PC manufacturers take advantage of the global rollout of 5G networks.

Utilizing the power and performance of a premium thin and light PC, “the Snapdragon 8cx 5G will modernize how people connect, compute and communicate with their PCs.”

Qualcomm is currently sampling Snapdragon 8cx 5G to OEMs including Windows and will be available in commercial devices later this year.

At its press event, Qualcomm also announced that it is bringing Quick Charge, its proprietary charging technology to wireless chargers.
