First Ever ISO Snapshot of Solus 2017.01.01.0 Released, New Features And Download Link

Short Bytes: On the first day of 2017, the first ISO Snapshot of the Solus Linux distribution has been released. Solus 2017.01.01.0 features the stable Linux kernel v4.8.1.15, improved multilingual support, latest Nvidia drivers, Brisk Menu for Mate edition, etc.

The Solus Project has released the ISO snapshot 2017.01.01.0 for their Solus Linux distribution, which is first one after the project shifted the development to rolling model. Also, this is the second series refresh done by the team starting SolusOS in 2011, then moving on to Solus in 2014, and finally the rolling release model.

Snapshot 2017.01.01.0 takes the responsibility from Solus 1.2.1, the last fixed release version of the Linux distro. With the last release, Solus Project introduced the Mate desktop edition for the Solus Linux distro.

According to Joshua Strobl, project’s communication manager, the development team has worked on enhancing the out-of-the-box experience of Solus.

The updated libmtp package enables support for an extended list of devices connected using the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) interface. The package manager eopkg has been updated, thereby, fixing the freezing issues with the Software Center.

Firefox on the latest Solus ISO has been updated to 50.10. and has received fixes for corrupted mouse pointer which sometimes appeared in the web browser. Also, VLC has been improved for playback over network locations.

Further updates to Solus include the Nvidia driver version 375.26, Thunderbird 45.6, and many improvements in the Software Center. The 3rd party applications list is expanded to include Google Earth, Bitwig Studio, etc. The Software Center in Solus 2017.01.01.0 also comes with community-sourced translations in various languages.


Budgie 10.2.9 on Solus has received many bug fixes along with improved support for Arabic and Chinese. Solus Mate Edition is shipped with Mat 1.16 and features the new Brisk Menu 0.1.0 created by the Solus project team.
