Tesla Model S Becomes The Fastest 4-Door Electric Car At Laguna Seca

The Tesla Model S is now the fastest 4-door electric sedan on the famous Laguna Seca race track. The circuit is located in California and is famous for it’s Corkscrew’ corner also known as Turn 8. This turn features an elevated drop that tests the skills of many professional racers.

Elon Musk recently tweeted that the Model S has achieved the record for the fastest 4-door electric sedan around the Californian circuit.

The timing has not yet been revealed but it’d surely be less than 1:37.5, which was the previous record set by a modded Tesla Model 3. A video of the record run is coming tomorrow.

Musk also confirmed that the Model S will be attempting to beat Porsche Taycan’s record at the Nurburgring next week. He revealed that the Model S is currently being tuned for safety, especially on the Flugplatz section of the famous German race track.

The Tesla Model S will have to complete a single lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under 7 minutes 42 seconds.

Tesla Model S: The Fastest 4-Door Electric Sedan

Previously, a modded Tesla Model 3 and a Jaguar XE SV Project 8 are the two cars that held the fastest lap time record for four-door cars on the Laguna Seca race track.

The Tesla Model 3 holds a record timing of 1:37.5 seconds, while the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has a record lap time of 1:37.54.

Tesla Model 3, as we all know, is an electric car and the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 uses a supercharged V8 internal combustion engine producing 591 Horsepower.

If the Tesla Model S became the fastest 4-door EV in the Laguna Seca, then it is possible that it’s now the fastest rear-seater sedan of all time.

It is because the Tesla Model S is .04 seconds faster than the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. Other electric cars have also attempted the fastest lap time record at the American circuit.

Another Tesla Model S has also tried a record run sometime before on this race track and it achieved a timing of 1:45.2.

Model S At The Nurburgring: What To Expect?

The Tesla Model S will attempt to break the record set by Porsche Taycan next week. It is also possible that the famous F1 champion Nico Rosenberg will be driving the Tesla Model S on the Nurburgring.

The Flugplatz section that Musk mentioned is a famous part of the German race track. Flugplatz means “Air Field” in English and it consists of a small straight section which slowly increases in elevation and then suddenly comes down.

A number of accidents have also happened in this section of the race track. Notable German racing professional Manred Winckelhof passed away during an accident in 1980 in this corner. Another spectator suffered an accident on this corner. After that, in 2016 Flugpatz was renovated.

Musk is smart to not take chances in this section and wait for some time before attempting a record run.
