TikTokers rejoice! Following the ban on TikTok in India, the Supreme Court has directed the Madras High Court to decide the fate of the app; otherwise, the ban on the app will be lifted.
A bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi asked the Madras High Court to give out the verdict in response to a plea by TikTok to unban the app in the country.
ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is against the order and claims that the court didn’t publish a notice before the ban and failed to hear the company’s side.
It is suggested that if the Madras court fails to respond by April 24, the app won’t remain banned in India.
To recall, TikTok is currently unavailable on both the Google Play Store and the App Store in India, refraining new users from downloading the app. However, existing users can still use the app.
For those who have forgotten, TikTok has been facing ban issues in India on account of promoting pornography and derogatory content.
The order to continue the app’s ban in India after Madras court suggested it was first issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity).
Furthermore, the court ordered all the media publications not to broadcast videos made by TikTok.
