Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 Released, Download ISO And Torrent Files Now

Short Bytes:
The first beta for Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak has arrived. You can now download the ISO images for Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, and Ubuntu Kylin from Canonical servers. Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 ships with Linux kernel 4.4, LibreOffice 5.2, and GCC 6.2.0. The second and final beta is slated to arrive on September 22, followed by the Final Release on October 22.

The development process of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak is going on and it has already reached the Beta stages of development, but currently only for opt-in flavors. The Ubuntu flavors taking part in the Beta 1 milestone include Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu MATE, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, and Ubuntu Kylin. Xubuntu has decided to skip the Beta 1 release.

You might be knowing that the regular version of Ubuntu, i.e. the most awaited one, only takes part in the second and final beta release, which is slated to arrive on September 22.

In these flavors, most of the software packages have been updated to their latest version. This list of software includes the latest stable GNOME 3.20 Stack, LibreOffice 5.2, and GCC 6.2.0 compiler. In our previous post, we’ve already told that Canonical aims to implement the ‘netplan’ project in the final release. For the startup session, Upstart will also be replaced by systemd.

As far as the kernel is concerned, Ubuntu 16.10 still uses Linux 4.4 LTS kernel. However, the final release of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak will be powered by Linux kernel 4.8.

Ubuntu MATE 16.10 Beta 1:

Ubuntu MATE project calls this beta release their “most uninteresting beta release E-V-E-R!”. Wondering why? This release is all about making a transition to GTK 3.20, something that’s not very interesting from a user’s point-of-view. Ubuntu MATE 16.10 Beta 1 comes with many updated packages for improved GTK 3.0 support.

Lubuntu 16.10 Beta 1:

When Lubuntu project revealed its intentions to go with the LxQt desktop environment, it made people excited. However, it looks like it’s still not ready to make a switch. This Beta 1 release comes with core app updates and some bug fixes. There’s also a new default wallpaper.

Ubuntu Kylin 16.10 Beta 1:

Ubuntu Kylin, a variant of Ubuntu that’s more suitable for Chinese users, focuses on stability and bug fixes in its first beta release. These bugs include internationalization and location bugs in Ubuntu and Ubuntu Kylin software.

Ubuntu Studio 16.10 Beta 1:
