Android Q To Dump Back Button For Gesture Navigations

Another Android Q feature has been uncovered by XDA Developer that makes us more excited about the upcoming Android version. XDA has claimed that Google will get rid of the back button by replacing it with gesture navigation.

After Apple killed its iconic home button to bring gesture-based navigations, we saw Android Pie also moving towards swipe up navigations for opening recent apps and tapping on the pill for home.

With companies like OnePlus and Xiaomi bringing their own custom gesture navigation that are quite responsive, the gesture control system is the future. However, it needs more polishing and Android Q aims to do that.

In a leaked code, a new navigation system has been spotted in which Google has killed the back button for good. In the new system, you need to swipe the pill to go back. Moreover, the code also suggests that the swipe right “quick gesture” has been made more intuitive and animated.

You can see the features in action in this video below:

This buttonless gesture navigation in Android Q is still in the early phase and we’re not sure whether we will see this system in the final build of the OS. With Google unveiling Android in its I/O event scheduled for May this year, we will finally see what Android Q has to offer.
